The 2S4 Tyulpan is a Soviet 240 mm self-propelled mortar and the largest mortar system in use today. It entered in serial production in 1974 and saw action during the Soviet-Afghan war and in Chechnya and is now in use in Ukraine. It's extreme firepower per round (130 kg HE rounds or 228 kg rocket-assisted HE rounds) compensates for it's slow rate of fire (one round pert minute). The 2S4 has a range of 9.7 km with standard round and 20 km with the extended-range ammunition. In 2017 a modernised variant was introduced with a new barrel, hydraulic recoil mechanism, communication systems and positioning and fire-control system.
The very nice 3D printed model is from YK 3D. I added some wiring around the mortar mount, completed the crane to show it in use and opened the side panel for the control console. Small diorama coming shortly 😎
